At the University of Göttingen -Public Law Foundation-, Department für Agrarökonomie und Rurale Entwicklung, there is a position as Doctoral Researcher (all genders welcome) Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L/65% to be filled. Starting date is 3/1/2027. The position is limited to 2/28/2030.
The position In the field Agricultural and Development Economics with a tentative starting date of March 2027 and will be limited to 3 years. The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (TVL-E13) with 65% , which corresponds to 25.87 working hours per week.
The Department of Agricultural Economics and Rural Development is one of three departments in the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and currently comprises 12 professorships. In the division of Environmental and Resource Economics, we address research questions related to sustainable food systems, sustainable land use, and technology – including its adoption, diffusion, and impact on the well-being of rural households. We conduct our research primarily in countries of the Global South.
Your tasks
The doctoral researcher will conduct research related to sustainable land use, technology adoption and/or market participation in the Global South. Possible research topics include voluntary sustainability standards, the role of institutions and incentives in promoting sustainable land-use decisions, digitalization, climate adaptation and the assessment of welfare outcomes including food security and resilience. The tasks include:
• Design and implementation of field research (e.g. household survey) in a country of the Global South
• Empirical analysis of quantitative primary and/or secondary data using statistical and econometric methods
• Active interaction with other researchers across disciplinary boundaries
• Presentation and publication of research results
• Contribution to the chair’s teaching program
Your profile
• Outstanding Master degree in Agricultural Economics, Development Economics or a related discipline
• Strong analytical skills and experience with quantitative research methods
• Proven interest in topics related to rural development economics, sustainable agri-food systems, food security
• Willingness and ability to work under field conditions in the tropics; work experience in the tropics is a plus
• Willingness to engage in interdisciplinary collaboration; experience of working in intercultural and interdisciplinary teams is a plus
• Excellent command of the English language
The position is based in Göttingen (Germany) but requires traveling and extended research stays in a country of the Global South. The position is intended to qualify young scientists and offers the opportunity to prepare a PhD thesis.
